The Lord's NameThe Lord's last name is not damn!
Exo 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. This verse is one of the Ten Commandments.
STRONGS Concordance 2338a; n m vain AV - vain 22, vanity 22, false 5, lying 2, falsely 1, lies 1; 53 1) emptiness, vanity, falsehood 1a) emptiness, nothingness, vanity 1b) emptiness of speech, lying 1c) worthlessness (of conduct)
I am horrified at the way I hear our God's name used. Not only is it used in everyday language with profanity and body parts but to curse men, even among those that call themselves Christians. His name is profaned on TV, the radio and in books. I see those that say they are Christian's not even flinch or have had them say they didn't even notice when the Lord's name was used with profanity. Every child of God should have inner radar when the Lord's name is spoken. It should touch to your very core when His name is used in an evil way.
We serve a Holy God. Never is His name to be used casually or in cursing man. Lev 18:21 And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD. Lev 19:12 And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD. Lev 20:3 And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from among his people; because he hath given of his seed unto Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name. Lev 21:6 They shall be holy unto their God, and not profane the name of their God: for the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and the bread of their God, they do offer: therefore they shall be holy.
When we use profanity we blasphemy God. Profanity: The quality of being profane; irreverence; also profane conduct or language; a profane act or utterance. When we speak profanity using God's holy name or to or about another we are revealing our true heart condition. Mat 12:34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. Lev 22:2 Speak unto Aaron and to his sons, that they separate themselves from the holy things of the children of Israel, and that they profane not my holy name in those things which they hallow unto me: I am the LORD. Lev 24:16 And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death. Deu 5:11 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain. Psa 139:20 For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain. Pro 30:9 Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain. Isa 52:5 Now therefore, what have I here, saith the LORD, that my people is taken away for nought? they that rule over them make them to howl, saith the LORD; and my name continually every day is blasphemed. Rom 2:24 For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written. Rev 16:9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.
EASTONS BIBLE DICTIONARY Blasphemy In the sense of speaking evil of God this word is found in Ps. 74:18; Isa. 52:5; Rom. 2:24; Rev. 13:1, 6; 16:9, 11, 21. It denotes also any kind of calumny, or evil-speaking, or abuse (Kings 21:10; Acts 13:45; 18:6, etc.). Our Lord was accused of blasphemy when he claimed to be the Son of God (Matt. 26:65; comp. Matt. 9:3; Mark 2:7). They who deny his Messiahship blaspheme Jesus (Luke 22:65; John 10:36). Blasphemy against the Holy Ghost (Matt. 12:31, 32; Mark 3:28, 29; Luke 12:10) is regarded by some as a continued and obstinate rejection of the gospel, and hence is an unpardonable sin, simply because as long as a sinner remains in unbelief he voluntarily excludes himself from pardon. Others regard the expression as designating the sin of attributing to the power of Satan those miracles which Christ performed, or generally those works which are the result of the Spirit's agency.
Mat 5:33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: 35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. 36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. 37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
God's name is holy. It is to be spoken in reverence. Psa 111:9 He sent redemption unto His people: he hath commanded His covenant for ever: holy and reverend is His name. Mic 4:5 For all people will walk every one in the name of his god, and we will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever. Heb 12:28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:

Do we stand in awe of our God? Do we speak His name in a reverent way? God's name is to be praised. Psa 34:3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together. Psa 72:17 His name shall endure forever: His name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in Him: all nations shall call Him blessed. Isa 29:23 But when He seeth His children, the work of Mine hands, in the midst of Him, they shall sanctify My name, and sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the God of Israel.
Our tongue is small little member that can bless or create evil and destroy! Jam 1:26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. Jam 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and sitteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. 7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: 8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
Eph 5:4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. Col 3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Col 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. Tit 2:7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, 8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you. If you use profanity all the time, then you will be perceived as a profane and ungodly person. It shows disrespect for "God for He is HOLY. The word Christian means Christ-like. Let us not have others perceive us as ungodly. This is a reflection upon our Lord. If we have confessed Jesus as our personal Savior then we are saying we are a Christian. Christian means Christ-like. Would Christ use the name of His Father with profanity or to damn others? Only God can damn another. When we curse and misuse God's name we are saying we don't care about God and what is Holy. Can we minister to others if we are swearing? We are not to be conformed to this world. Others are watching and listening and it is a refection upon the Lord to the unsaved.
We must yield our tongues as tools of good for God. Satan will use our every word to his advantage, and to our spiritual detriment. You will quickly blow your testimony for Christ! Hos 4:2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood. The Ten Commandments are not an option. Ecc 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. Lord keep me sensitive to Your Spirit that I might not fall into the spirit of worldliness. May I remember to keep a check on my tongue. May it be an instrument of blessing and praise. Let my conversation this day be pleasing in Your sight. May all that I do and say draw others to You. Amen
