"Once Saved, Always Saved"Is it the Doctrine of Man?This doctrine is taught in many churches, but is it scriptural? When we go to the Bible to answer this question, we find the Bible does not teach this. The Bible teaches that we can lose our salvation. Some believe that they may not have been saved in first place but read what the Bible says. Paul says …but I buffet my body and make it my slave, lest possibly, after I have preached to others, I myself should be disqualified. 1 Corinthians 9:27 and in 10:1-6 For I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under a cloud, and all passed through the sea; and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea; and all ate the same spiritual food; and all the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ, Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased; for they were laid low in the wilderness. Now these things happened as examples for us, that we should not crave evil things, as they also craved. And verse 12 Therefore let him who thinks he stand take heed lest he fall. Galatians 5:4 You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. In Colossians 1:23 we read: If indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I Paul was made a minister. Notice the "if", that means it is conditional. Hebrews 10:26 For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins. This verse is surely not speaking of an unsaved person, but the saved who continues to walk in his sin after knowing what sin is. We read in 2 Peter 2:20-22 For if after they have escaped the defilement’s of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, that having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment delivered to them. It has happened to them according to the true proverb, "A dog returns to its own vomit," and A sow, after washing returns to wallowing in the mire." Isn’t Peter telling us these were once saved but they have returned to sin. You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard lest, being carried away by the error of unprincipled men, you fall form your own steadfastness… 2 Peter 3:17 Here we see Peter warning those who turn from truth will fall. When we look at the messages to the Seven Churches in Revelation we see the warning He gives to each of them unless they remained faithful. Ephesus: "Remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you, and will remove your lampstand out of its place-unless you repent. Revelation 2:5 Symrna: "Do not fear what you are about to suffer, Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days, Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. Revelation 2:10 Pergamum: ‘Repent therefore; or else I am coming to you quickly, and I will make war against them with the sword of My mouth. Revelation 2:16 Thyatira: ‘Nevertheless what you have, hold fast until I come. Revelation 2:25 Sardis: ‘Remember therefore what you have seen and heard; and keep it, and repent. If therefore you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come upon you. Revelation 3:3 Philadelphia: I am coming quickly; hold fast what you have, in order that no one take your crown. Revelation 3:11 Laodicea: ‘So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. Revelation 3:16 In the parable of the "Sower" in Luke 8:4-15 we see exactly this. In verse 15 "And the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance. Verse 16 "Now no one after lighting a lamp covers it over with a container, or puts it under a bed; but he puts it on a lampstand, in order that those who come in may see the light. Verse 17 "For nothing is hidden that shall not become evident, not anything secret that shall not be known and come to light. Verse 18 ""Therefore take care how you listen; for whoever has, to him shall more be given; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has shall be taken away from him." Walking down the aisle, being baptized nor joining a church saves you. Only accepting Jesus as your personal Savior can do that. But it does not end there. It is a continual surrendering your life daily to His leading. It is confessing your sins and overcoming them. One cannot continue to willfully sin and not repent and be saved. It is your sanctification process which will continue until the return of Christ. Here is the perseverance of the saints who keep the commandments of God and Their faith in Jesus Revelation 14:12
