The Rules of Interpretation

Understanding prophecy seems to be so difficult. There are so many interpretations and as to whether they have been fulfilled or not. Can we not come to some similar conclusions to apocalyptic prophecies that we can agree upon? The prophecies of Revelation and Daniel. Is this possible?

In Larry Wilson's book, The Revelation of Jesus, I was introduced to a new technology, a process of prophetic interpretation. I found this to be most useful in my own studies. I would like to share this knowledge with you.

This can apply to both fulfillment’s to prophecy in the past as well as in the future. In using this process we can come at least to similar conclusions. In this way we can understand the prophecies for ourselves. I found this to be fascinating. Try these rules for yourself, I am sure you will find them most useful.

1. All apocalyptic prophecies are identified by the presence of both, a beginning and ending point in time, and elements within each prophecy are given in chronological order.

2. A fulfillment of apocalyptic prophecy, or progression towards fulfillment, only occurs when all specifications of the prophecy or its elements are met - including chronological order.

3. Symbols can only be interpreted with relevant Scripture.
These simple rules are indispensable when studying the prophecies. When they are applied to those that have been historically fulfilled, we see that they are consistent and we have something we can use to those yet in the future. You can then have the capacity to study for yourself.
