'Till Death Do Us Part
"I
just don’t love her anymore." How often do we hear this. Love
that can be turned off and on when the going gets rough. The problem is,
do you want to love him again? Are you willing for God to restore that
love you once felt for one another? Loving
unconditionally is tough, but it is what God expects in a marriage. The
same kind of love He gives us. "And be kind to one another,
tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has
forgiven you." (Ephesians 4:32) The Lord
gave us very important principles for marriage. Ephesians 5: 22-23
"Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the
husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the
church, He Himself being the Savior of the body." In verse 25,
"Husbands, love your wives just as Christ also loved the church and
gave Himself up for her." Verse 31 "For this cause a man shall
leave His Father and Mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and the two
shall become one flesh." I
Corinthians 7:10-16 "But to the married I give instructions, not I,
but the Lord, that the wife should not leave her husband but, if she
does leave, let her remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her
husband, and that the husband should not send his wife away. And a woman
who has an unbelieving husband, and he consents to live with her, let
her not send her husband away. For the believing husband is sanctified
through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her
husband; for otherwise your children are unclean, but now they are holy.
Yet if the unbelieving one leaves, let him leave; the brother or the
sister is not under bondage in such cases, but God has called us to
peace." Skipping to verse 39, "A wife is bound as long as her
husband lives; but if her husband is dead, she is free to be married to
who she wishes, only in the Lord." But, what
does God have to say on divorce? Matthew 19:6-11 "Consequently they
are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined
together, let no man separate. They said to Him, why then did Moses
command to give her a certificate of divorce and send her say? He said
to them, because of your hardness of heart, Moses permitted you to
divorce your wives, but from the beginning it has not been this way. And
I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality (adultry)
and marries another woman commits adultery." Marriage is
so easily taken these days. We can always get a divorce and get out of
it. There is no true commitment. Families are torn apart and the
children suffer the worst of it. "I just don’t love her
anymore" is not enough. God will supply all the love you need if
you are willing. You are one in flesh and when you cut it in half there
is part of you missing. We must learn to love as Christ did the church
inspite of our faults. Learn to make true commitments and work on our
marriages together. Divorce is not the real answer. Pray and ask God to give you the love for your partner that you had when you said and meant those vows. "...till death do us part."
